quelle chance!

In my last post. I wrote about losing a ring. The ring on my thumb in this picture. I had no hope of finding it, honest. I had no idea were to even look for it. Among so many other things, I mowed the entire lawn that day- How could I possibly find it?

My Dad found it tonight. I can’t believe he found it. He was working on a project out in the yard and just happened to be kneeling right were it was. Quelle Chance!

My thumb is happy tonight.

Crazy People

This house has been full of crazy people today. We’re getting ready to go camping. There has been so much to get done. Thankfully, it is just about time for me to crawl into bed.

The lawn is mowed. The green beans are picked and fourteen quarts canned. Seven quarts of peaches canned. The car is half packed, just the food and coolers are left for morning. Chocolate, graham crackers, and marshma… wait, I don’t think the marshmallows are packed. That was close. Almost forgot the marshmallows. All the plants watered. Cookies baked.

And one ring lost.

[I am thankful it wasn’t my spoon ring that got lost. But- losing my ring makes me feel sick. My thumb feels naked after having a ring on it for years.]
I am going to go to bed now and try not to cry over my lost ring.
Then I’ll wake up early and go camping.

Have a good weekend.
[and don’t lose any sentimentally valuable valuables while you’re at it.]

I feel like these next few weeks are crammed with the last of summers festivities. It’s September- summer is coming to a close- the morning temperatures around here don’t feel too summer-ish anymore. So yes, there are still camping trips and outdoor parties to plan and get ready for. I’m excited.
Excited to pack up my tent and sleeping bag. I do like camping. Especially camping breakfast. That might just be my favourite part. Boiled Potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon… all of which are fried in bacon grease. And coffee. In the early morning when you climb out of your warm sleeping bag to find that the campfire is just being built and the expected warmth is still non-existent – the smell of coffee is like heaven.
I’m excited to have a few more bonfires in the back yard, bake a few more summer pies, finish a few more summer projects. I think I will like September. Even if it feels crammed full of other things to get done on top of the everyday.

Today has felt productive. I canned green beans from our garden, started a pot of soup simmering for dinner, and I just pulled these baguettes out of the oven.

I want to break one open and eat it while it’s warm. Self control. I really should wait until dinner. [See, I’m already getting in the mood for fall. Soup and bread for dinner tonight!] These baguettes make me think of the time Bell came to visit. That was almost a year ago now. We made these baguettes together then. They’ve turned out amazing every time I’ve made them. But everything always taste just that much better when you get to enjoy them with a friend.
Missing you mon bell.
