What’s the deal?

Cupcakes are a huge deal lately.
There are mini cupcakes, jumbo cupcakes, the classic cupcake, and baby cakes. From cupcakes for weddings, to cupcakes for first birthdays- The options are endless.
Everybody is in love with The Cupcake.
It is a raging fashion trend.
It is Vogue.

What ever happened to the good old fashioned layer cake?
You know, the ones that you frost with a butter knife?
I can do those kind of cakes.
They are enjoyable. They are cute. They are tasty.

This cupcakes trend? I cannot do.
Seriously. Take a look at these.
This is todays failed attempt at chocolate brownie cupcakes.

No really. Did you see those? They are single serving crater lakes!
I don’t know why I even tried. They never turn out for me. I literally can only remember two or maybe three occasions where I baked tolerable cupcakes on my own.
Maybe I will devote an entire day to cupcake baking. Someday I will bake a nice cupcake. One day I will figure out what the deal is with my hideous cupcakes!

I tried to save them with frosting.

You never would have known what faults my cupcakes had if I hadn’t told you…

[In all honesty, I have nothing against cupcakes. It’s only the ones that come out of my oven that I have problems with. ]

Kitchen Time.

I has able to spend a week with Grace, my friend who lives in eastern Washington.  We tend to spend most of our times together in the kitchen. So I thought I would share a few pictures of the products our time together produced.

Quiche. For dinner.

Mmm, This chocolate truffle tart is one of the most amazing things. It’s so simple. But complexly delicious. And seriously gourmet.

This is the tart going into the oven.

Oh boy. Graces brother, Lewis turned 16 while I was there. For his birthday breakfast we made doughnuts. (Yes, it was an early morning for Grace and I.)

The chocolate glaze turned out perfect. And those sprinkles? They just scream birthday.

Even the doughnut holes, lightly cinnamon sugared, turned out amazingly yummy.

We also made these cupcakes for the birthday celebration. But before we could eat them we had to pack them for transportation… to Idaho and back… birthday surprises you know. There are almond cupcakes with almond frosting, and chocolate cupcakes with coffee frosting.

I had such a fun time with Grace. There are so many fun memories of our times together. I will never forget them. And they will always make me smile.

I’m going on holiday to visit this girl. Her name is Grace.
(That’s me, slaving away in the back.)
Grace and I have many kitchen adventure memories. We both love baking and cooking. So, when we’re in the kitchen together, we do it up big. (Late into the night as well. At least dinner was ready by nine o’clock that one time…)
We’re hoping to tackle homemade marshmallows and graham crackers for smores this time. And we’ll be grilling. Grilled pizza for sure. Possibly some kabobs or skewers of some sort. And most definately baking…

{I really think Grace and I could own a cupcake shop someday.}

We’re going to have so much fun.

p.s. Maybe I’ll fill you in on our adventures when I get back…
